Happy 4th...

from the top of the world!

To celebrate the 4th of July, Chris and I summitted our 3rd fourteener together (mountain over 14,000 ft). Chris did most of the work on a bike, while Turbo and I drove up in a car. We parked our vehicles at the top and summitted the last 100 feet together on foot where we were greeted by a very twilight-zone-ish sing along of America the Beautiful by about 50 tourists at the top. We snapped our pictures and headed down right before the clouds quickly blew over the top of the mountain and took away any sort of view.

I recommend this trip to any Michiganders who come to visit, want to say they've 'bagged a 14er' but don't want to do any of that pesky hiking stuff. Mount Evans is home to the highest paved automobile road in North America. If you are too cool for hiking or riding in a car, you can also ride your bike up it like Chris did -- either for a $3 fee any day you want or $60 in a race at the end of July. Did I mention he also rode to the mountain from our house? That's an optional, more *crazy* route though, and I wouldn't recommend it. I plan to try it next year on my bike, but without the whole 4:30 am departure from our house without a car thing. Ew.

Look! Colorado does have lakes!

Happy to finally be at the top! At this point, Turbo and I had sat in the car for a while, listened to music, and ate a bunch of Snickerdoodles.
Turbo's first 14er in the books. He liked getting to see snow again at the top and getting admired by all of the tourists.

I hope everyone had a great 4th!
Love,
Marni and Chris (and Turbo)

Comments:
Great pics as usual Marni! Hey, a couple of us summited a 14er after your wedding...but I think a drive up might be a bit easier, and faster.

Great photos Marni. I love your dog, he's adorable! Looks like another fun weekend for you guys! Have you found a job yet? If not, they are always hiring in N.C. on the beach! :o)

Marni--I'd ride with you...in the car, that is! :)
