$4 Prescriptions
I hope that this is helpful. Because I work in a community health clinic, I often get to find out the latest news on medication discount programs. One of the newest things out there is a $4 medication program offered by Target pharmacies (Wal-Mart and K-mart Pharmacies also have similar programs). What Target Pharmacy has done is compiled a list of medications which are commonly prescribed, and they now offer these medications for a cost of $4 a month, regardless of health insurance coverage. Simply stated, this prescription program is open to anyone and everyone whether you have health insurance, minimal insurance, no insurance---whatever and it's offered nation wide. The idea is to get people their medications, and not charge an arm and a leg for them. There are narcotic medications, muscle relaxors, antibiotics, blood pressure meds, diabetic medications, thyroid medications, etc. Most of them are the generic brand, but have the same medication components as the name brand medication. The link to their site is http://sites.target.com/images/pharmacy/pharmacy_4dollar_program_list.pdf, also you can access this information by going to Target's website, click on the Pharmacy link and look for the $4 medication program. (Again, Wal-mart and K-mart have similar programs, with slightly different meds on their lists to offer a wider range of medication coverage, I just prefer Target pharmacies over the others) If you are on any long term meds, or are being a prescribed a new medication check this list out, or bring it with you to your next appointment and ask your doctor if they can either change the medication you're on to one that is on the list, or if the generic form of your medication is on the list. Most doctors are just looking to get the patient treated, and have no quarrels about using this program, in fact, many prefer to. As a patient, your doctor can either call or fax the prescription over to the Target pharmacy, or give you a written copy of the medication. When you go to get your prescription filled, make sure to let them know that it should be on the $4 program and there shouldn't be a problem as long as the medication is on their list.
Again, ANYONE can use this program, old young, insured and uninsured! You are NOT taking money away from those who need it, or taking somethiing away from the program by using it. Target WANTS their pharmacy to be used, and patients to get their medications and they are the ones offering the program. If you have any questions, e-mail me or call. BeckyYoung28@hotmail.com. Again, I hope that this is helpful. Hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather!
