President Ford in Grand Rapids

Today Missy and I took Raleigh and Sydney to see President Ford's Motorcade from Gerald R. Ford Airport in Grand Rapids to the Ford Museum where he is going to be buried. The neighborhood where we live backs up to I-96 so we walked less than a quarter of a mile and watched from right near the highway. There was quite a large group of people watching from where we were, waving flags and holding signs. We saw the Ford family photographer taking pictures from his car window near the front of the motorcade and one of the Ford girls (the long haired blonde) was waving from her car. Although Raleigh was cold, she had a great time waving her flag. I think she was a little confused to see everything happen on TV and then see it in real life. Anyway, I am sure many people are not really paying attention to this funeral but in Grand Rapids, it is HUGE!! It has been really interesting to see all the media coverage and hear all the stories. James' mom told us the other day that James' grandpa knew Gerald Ford - what a small world.

Comments:
What a cool thing to see. You took good pictures too! Raleigh can tell stories of seeing the motorcade for years to come!

Missy--Did you give your kids any bonus points for showing up? :) What a great event to see...especially on Christmas break.

Sydney--Where's your shoe?
