News from Auckland

Hey Everyone! Thought I'd give you guys a quick update (without pictures again...sorry, they will be up soon I promise!). I'm in my apartment in downtown Auckland. It's a 4 bedroom...kind of small, but it's pretty nice. I live with my friend Ashley (who is from Grand Rapids), a 25 year old German guy, Max, and a 26 year old Japanesse Kiwi (Kiwi = New Zealander) named Miho. They are really nice, and we're having a lot of fun.

A few days ago, I went Zorbing. It is where you are with 2 other people, climb in a big hamster type plastic ball, and roll down a hill. It was "sweet as" (that's local kiwi talk for ya). The past couple of nights, I have gone out to eat on the town with a bunch of people. Auckland is GREAT! Lots to do and see and the people are very friendly. Oh, and I also purchased my first legal alcoholic beverage (don't worry, it was only one drink...I PROMISE!!!)

Today, Ashley and I attempted to go grocery shopping. Didn't know it was going to be that hard. I spent like 10 minutes picking out butter. haha I guess I'll just have to figure out what I like, but it might take awhile.

I promise to post pictures SOON!!! It's taken awhile to get internet and phone usage in my apartment. Just FYI (and if you want to update the family mailing list), here is my address and phone number:

Unilodge Apt 503
138 Anzac Ave.
Auckland, New Zealand (There is no zip code)

Apartment Phone Number: 336-7422
Cell phone number: 021-533-191

The country code for New Zealand is 0064 (or 064...not sure if it makes a difference).

Hope all is well in the States! Miss you all!!

Love, Lisa

Into the desert we go!

Marni and I are headed to Moab, Utah this weekend for my birthday on the 19th. We are going with a friend of Marni's (Shaina) and her boyfriend (Andy), trying to at least escape the current snow storm here in Denver and get some sunshine.

Andy and I are joining 5 riders from Salt Lake City to do the White Rim trail on Saturday. It's a beautiful 100 mile long mountain bike ride in Island in the Sky park. I will take some pictures on the ride and post them here but these pictures have been my inspiration to do the ride. They were taken by another rider on the winter solstice and are some of the sights we'll see as we start before dawn and drop into the canyon at first light.

The girls should have some great pictures from Marni's good camera too from their hiking trips while we're out in the desert for 10 hours or so. Sunday Andy and I are going to ride into the La Sal mountains on the road bikes for a shorter ride and then come back and do some more hiking with the girls in Arches National park.

G'day from half way around the world!

Hello everyone! I just thought I'd give you all a heads-up that I am now in Auckland, New Zealand! I arrived this morning (which is Thursday the 16th...Wed the 15th did not exist for me). The 13 hour plane ride from LA went by really fast...thanks to some Nyquil and some sleep. Auckland is GORGEOUS!!! I am definitely going to love it here. I've met some awesome girls from the east coast that I've been hanging out with. I'm already having the time of my life and it's only day 1 of 4.5 months! So, thanks for all the prayers for safe travel...it is much appreciated. I'll post pics on here periodically once I get settled into my apartment (which will be sometime next week). Anyways, hope all is well in the States. And for those of you in Michigan, hope it isn't too cold (it's mid 70's here :) )

Lots of Love!

Lisa

Hello from Jersey

It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time at the wedding. I wish we could have been there. All the pictures we have seen on this are absolutely gorgeous. Not much going on in Jersey right now. We just got hit by alot of snow. It's no comparison to winters in Michigan, but it is a lot for around here. I think we got about 18 inches or so in about 24 hours. Jeff and I saw 'The Lion King' on Broadway the other night. It was fantastic. I highly recommend seeing it if it comes close. I have attached a picture of Logan doing his favorite thing, "gockey." He even asks for it if he hears the TV click on. I can get him to sit and watch for a long time.
If anyone ever feels like visiting, we have plenty of room and there is almost too much to do.
Take care.

How to add your own "Post"

Hey family,
There have been some questions on how to add your own addition (known as a post) to our blog. Here's how to do it:
1. Click on the orange & blue button on the bottom of the blog called "I Power Blogger"
2. At the top right, sign in using your USERNAME and PASSWORD.
3. Click on the green, cross button that says "NEW POST"
4. A screen will pop up that will let you type your post. When you are done, click on the orange button that says "Publish Post". (if you want to add pictures, click on the little picture that's at the top of where you write)
5. Viola- the rest of the family can see what's going on!!! My encouragement- post, post, post! If you are more computer savy- instruct your family members how to do it.

I hope everyone is doing great!! I love the picture of Greg's Entertainment Center and Todd & Lisa's wedding. Keep them coming!!!

Finally, some wedding pictures!

These are a little blurry, but still awesome :) I will post some more as I receive them!

If anyone has any they have taken, please email them to me---I would love to see some more pictures!

Oh, and my hair was actually curly up until about the second or third hour of dancing at the reception and sweating like crazy---so the snow picture hair is not entirely accurate :)

Report from the deck

Hello all. Got back late last night to the boat after a wonderful time at Todd and Lisa's wedding (and yes, as we are known to sometimes say in our family, "she was a pretty bride"). Our vessel, enroute of course to the wedding in California, has been renamed the Jimmy B. As you can see from the photo we are currently in the midst of a snow and ice storm so the view is not too good. Even though I wear my long underwear and other foul weather gear I sometimes end up standing frozen at the wheel, although unlike some of the other wedding guests, I am still standing. Anyway, bye for now. Capt'n Bob

Todd and Lisa's Wedding

I have just a couple pictures of Lisa on her big day that I thought I would post for ya.

Lisa in her dress before saying "I do."

The 2 Lisa Heeter's.

We're still trying to figure out how to differentiate between the two of us. Todd and Lisa have been calling me Sister Lisa, which makes me sound like I'm a nun, but whatever works! They are in Mexico right now for the honeymoon missing out on this cold Michigan weather. Lucky bums!
